Honda CB 750F2 Phil Read Replica
The 1979 Phil Read Replica was based on the Honda CB750 F2 SOHC in-line four.
150 Phil Read Replicas were prepared by Colin Seeley for Honda as a special run.
Former TT rider and frame builder, Colin Seeley, was commissioned by Honda to celebrate the success of the Isle of Man race bike. Ironically, the year it was released, Phil Read was beaten by the returning Mike Hailwood on his Ducati. That victory proved a turning point for the marque.
Only 150 replicas were built by Seeley and very few exist today, mostly within the UK.
There is a Seeley Honda that people often get mixed up with the Phil Read replica but that used a full Seeley-build chassis and was popular with the touring brigade, whereas the race-rep is merely a standard Honda CB750, stripped of its tank, seat and exhaust before adding UK-built Seeley items and a fairing. They even left the original side panels on to match the rest of the scheme.
The large megaphone has a much sharper bite to it than the weak-sounding exhaust system on the original CB750. Finding genuine parts is near impossible!
Our Phil Read Replica
Owned and stored off road since 2008. A fine example of a very rare, iconic motorcycle.
It has a Chrome Motad Exhaust, blacked to resemble original and early Honda indicator switch fitted to commission indicators which were not standard fitment. FVQ original fitment rear shocks.
This rare machine comes with Service Book, VOSA MOT History, VOSA Tax History, Past Tax Discs, Bike Poster, Copy of Original Sales Brochure, Spare Key, HPI certificate, V5C, Current MOT & Tax and a signed photo of Phil Read himself at the Isle of Man TT.
It has original paint that is in exceptional condition. The machine has been verified via its VIN number to be one of the 150 produced and now believed to be one of less than 50 remaining world wide.
It is also fitted with a period Renegade fork brace to enhance handling.
The machine is not concourse but a genuine example, displaying small marks expected of a machine dating from this era.
Due to its mileage it now carries Metzeler tyres rather than the original fitment Bridgestone’s.
